What WriteOff is
WriteOff gives general information about whether a business expense is likely deductible under U.S. federal income tax rules, how much may be deductible, what records to keep, and which IRS guidance applies. Its answers are based on the facts you provide and on public IRS publications, notices, and regulations for the tax year of the expense.
What WriteOff is not
WriteOff is not a tax preparer and does not provide tax, legal, or accounting advice. It does not file returns. Its answers are estimates; your actual deduction depends on facts WriteOff may not know and on your whole return. State tax treatment is not covered. When WriteOff says "professional review recommended", or whenever you are unsure, consult a qualified tax professional.
Your responsibilities
- Give accurate facts. WriteOff will not help create, alter, or backdate receipts, logs, or business purposes, and you must not use it to do so.
- Keep the records the law requires. WriteOff's documentation checklists help, but you remain responsible for your records and your return.
- Keep your device and Apple ID secure.
Your content
You own the receipts and information you upload. You give us permission to store and process them to provide the service, including through the service providers described in the Privacy Policy.
WriteOff Pro
WriteOff is free to use with a monthly limit on receipt reads. WriteOff Pro is an optional subscription, billed monthly or yearly through your Apple Account, that removes that limit and adds the tax pack for your preparer. Prices are shown in the app before you buy. A free trial, when offered, turns into a paid subscription at its end unless you cancel at least 24 hours before. Subscriptions renew automatically until canceled; you can cancel or change your plan any time in your iPhone's Settings > your name > Subscriptions, and Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for. Apple handles all payments, and any request to reverse a charge, under its own terms. If you created your account before WriteOff Pro launched, you have Pro for free while your account exists.
Availability and changes
We work to keep WriteOff accurate and available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service or that every answer is correct. When tax rules change, WriteOff may re-check your saved expenses and show you what changed.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law permits, WriteOff is provided "as is", and we are not liable for taxes, penalties, interest, or other losses arising from decisions you make using it.
Ending use
You can stop using WriteOff and delete your account at any time in the app.
