Tax deduction finder for 1099 and LLC owners
Know what you can write off, and why.
Snap a receipt or type what you bought. WriteOff tells you in plain words if it's likely a write-off, how much counts, and where it goes on your taxes.
Federal income tax only. WriteOff explains how IRS rules apply to what you tell it. It isn't a tax preparer, and you decide what goes on your return.

Step 3: Get a clear answer
Yes, partly or no, in words and a symbol. How much counts, why, the IRS source, where it goes on your tax form, and the records to keep.
The answer
Every answer shows its work.
The same laptop, below the pass: why it counts, the source you can open, the math, the line on your tax form, and what to keep.
Why
You use it for work about 80% of the time, so 80% of the cost counts. It cost under $2,500, so you can deduct your share this year instead of spreading it over several years.

The verdicts
Six plain answers. No spin.
Every answer is one of these, always with a symbol and words, never color alone. When something isn't a write-off, WriteOff says so and tells you why.
Likely a write-off
It counts for what you told us.
Partly a write-off
Part of it counts, like 80% of a laptop you also use at home. You can see the math.
Needs an answer
One fact decides it, so WriteOff asks one plain question first.
A write-off, spread over years
Things that last, like equipment, are often written off over several years.
Not a write-off
WriteOff says why, and what would change the answer.
Ask a tax pro
When the rules don't settle it, WriteOff says so instead of guessing.
Rules first, AI second
The rules decide. AI only helps.
WriteOff's tax rules, built from IRS publications and regulations, decide every answer and every amount. AI helps read and suggest. It can't change the answer or the numbers.
The rules decide
- If it's a write-off
- How much counts
- Why, with the IRS source
- Where it goes and what to keep
AI only helps
- Reads your receipt photo
- Reads what you type
- Suggests answers you already gave
- You confirm every suggestion
Nothing goes to AI until you say yes. Turn AI help off any time in Settings > Privacy and enter expenses yourself. The rules give the same answer either way.
Privacy
Your receipts stay yours.
WriteOff needs your expenses to answer. It doesn't need your bank login, your contacts or your location.
- No bank link. You check one expense at a time.
- You choose whether AI helps. WriteOff asks before anything is sent, and you can turn it off in Settings > Privacy.
- With AI help on, receipt images go to Anthropic's Claude API to be read, and text (what you type and the text on a receipt) goes to TypeSafe's jev model for suggestions you confirm. Anthropic doesn't use it to train its models.
- Receipts are kept in private storage and opened only through short-lived links.
- No ads, no tracking, and we don't sell your data.
- Delete your account and its data from the app at any time.
